Senior Site Construction & Integration Engineer

Whitewater Group is expanding its operations to support the development of a new data centre site in Finland through the establishment of a subsidiary. Now you have the opportunity to join them on their exciting mission!

On behalf of our client Whitewater, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Site Construction & Integration Engineer to lead and oversee the construction, integration, and commissioning phases of the data centre project. The role will involve coordinating all aspects of construction, ensuring the integration of systems and equipment, managing site operations, and delivering the project on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The Senior Site Construction & Integration Engineer will be a crucial member of the team overseeing the construction and successful integration of systems for the new data centre site in Finland. This role provides an exciting opportunity to lead a high-impact project for Whitewater Group, contributing to the expansion of the company's presence in the critical infrastructure sector.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Site Construction Management:
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of all site construction activities, ensuring that all work is completed according to the project’s scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manage site personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring that all parties are aligned with project objectives and deliverables.
  • Oversee site safety and compliance with local regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements, ensuring a safe working environment for all site personnel.
  • Monitor daily site operations and resolve any issues or delays that may arise, proactively managing risks to keep the project on track.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to project specifications, identifying any deviations or potential improvements.
  1. Integration of Systems & Equipment:
  • Oversee the integration of all mechanical, electrical, and systems components (HVAC, power systems, fire suppression, security, etc.) within the data centre environment.
  • Work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure that the design, equipment, and systems are effectively integrated into the site construction.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop and implement testing procedures for integrated systems and ensure all systems meet operational specifications.
  • Ensure that all commissioning processes are completed, including system checks, equipment startup, and final handover to operations.
  1. Project Coordination & Reporting:
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and senior leadership to provide regular progress updates on site construction and integration activities.
  • Manage project timelines and ensure that milestones and deadlines are met, identifying and addressing any risks to project delivery.
  • Prepare and present detailed progress reports, including construction status, integration issues, and recommendations for resolution.
  • Ensure that all documentation is accurate and up to date.
  1. Stakeholder Management:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all on-site personnel, subcontractors, and clients during the construction and integration phases.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders, including local authorities, regulatory bodies, and vendors, ensuring that all approvals and permits are obtained, and compliance is maintained.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and contractors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  1. Quality Assurance & Risk Management:
  • Ensure that the construction work is executed to the highest quality standards, with a focus on achieving the required certifications and compliance for data centre infrastructure.
  • Identify and manage risks related to construction, integration, and system performance, developing mitigation plans and solutions as required.
  • Implement quality control measures and ensure compliance with industry standards, including ISO certifications and local regulations.
  • Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the project and work towards continuous improvement.
  1. Health & Safety:
  • Ensure that all site activities adhere to health and safety regulations and Whitewater Group’s internal policies, fostering a culture of safety and proactive risk management.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and ensure all site personnel are trained and equipped to follow safety protocols.
  • Address any health and safety concerns immediately and implement corrective actions to prevent incidents.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in construction engineering, site management, and integration of complex systems in large-scale projects, particularly in data centres or similar infrastructure projects.

Technical Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in site construction and integration, with a strong background in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, especially in data centres or mission-critical environments, and a deep understanding of construction processes, methods, and best practices.
  • Professional (local) certifications in construction management and/or project management are advantageous.
  • Specific training or certifications related to data centre construction and commissioning are a plus.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and engineering tools for documentation and tracking progress.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to guide, motivate, and mentor site teams.
  • Extensive experience in managing subcontractors to ensure quality, safety, and compliance in construction.
  • Excellent project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the ability to manage complex issues and find solutions quickly.
